Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics

These two broad packages have been identified through industry consultation as high need areas. In 2008, 47% of employees in the manufacturing industry did not have a qualification and the Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council has estimated that the industry will double over the next decade. As such, Australian College of Training will be investing heavily in these areas to ensure that industry needs are met.

The scope of 'manufacturing' occupations covers a broad spectrum. The skills profile of the manufacturing industry covers production workers, tradespeople, technicians and associate professionals as well as professionals. These are applied in the range of manufacturing from simply transformed to elaborately transformed materials.

The Process Manufacturing Certificates cater for people working in the manufacturing industry and filling vital production support roles, but who may not have the opportunity to develop competence in sufficient technical units of competency related directly to producing products. These certificates have been developed for three primary markets, Chemical, Hydrocarbons and Oil Refining Training, Plastics, Rubber and Cablemaking Training, and Manufactured Mineral Products Training.

The Competitive Manufacturing qualifications were developed as a collaborative response from Australia's manufacturing Industry Advisory Bodies to assist the manufacturing industry to improve manufacturing practice through the development of innovative vocational education and training (VET) qualifications and units of competency. Competitive Manufacturing is more commonly known as Lean Manufacturing and focuses on processes to identify wastages and inefficiencies in business.
